[INVERGORDON MUTINY]: TOMKINSON WILFRID (1877-1971) English Vice-Admiral who took command of the Atlantic Fleet following the serious illness of Admiral Sir Michael Hodges in 1931. At that time the fleet was at Invergordon where the mutiny took place in reaction to pay cuts. D.S., W. Tomkinson, one page, oblong 8vo, n.p., 10th April 1918. The partially printed document, completed in an unidentified hand and also with a statement in Tomkinson's hand, certifies that Denis H. Pasmore served as paymaster on H.M.S. Attentive II from 23rd February - 6th April 1918 and that he conducted himself 'With much zeal and to my entire satisfaction'. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, otherwise VG The Invergordon Mutiny took place on 15th - 16th September 1931 and was an industrial action by around 1000 sailors in the British Atlantic Fleet, representing one of the few military strikes in British history. Tomkinson, whose career had been exemplary to this stage, was thrust into involuntary retirement as a result of the mutiny.
