GEORGE VI: (1895-1952) King of the United Kingdom 1936-52. A.L.S., Albert, as Duke of York, two pages, 8vo, Piccadilly, London, 29th May 1936, to William Ormsby-Gore. The Duke states that he had forgotten to congratulate his correspondent 'on going to the Colonial Office' in a previous letter and continues to comment 'I am so pleased that you are to be Colonial Secretary, as I well remember when you were head of that Commission to East Africa some years ago'. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by the Duke, signed with his initial ('A') to the lower left corner and further marked 'Personal'. VG William Ormsby-Gore (1885-1964) 4th Baron Harlech. British politician and banker who served as Secretary of State for the Colonies 1936-38.
