"David after the Combat" - a stunning classic Bronze sculpture- also known as "David Vainqueur" by the Artist Antonin Mercie, French 1845-1916. Bronze sighned by artist with foundry stamp. H. 74,5 cm. x L. 37 cm. x W. 29 cm. . In 1872 Mercie sent the plaster model of his david Vainqueur from Rome to the salon in Paris, to win the medal of first class. By the time Mercie was 30 years old he was famous. This classic bronze depicts a victorious David resheathing his sword after slaying Goliath, whose head lies on the ground beneath David's foot. The piece was originally sculpted by the French master Marius-Jean-Antoine. "David After the Combat" also known as "David Vainqueur". "Merci goin d' Honneyr" -a Medal of the first Class, and the "Croix de la L'brouht Merci" –Making him the only artist to receive it while still a student. An example was commissioned by the French state and exhibited at the world Exhibitions in Vienna in 1873 and Paris in 1878. This example is today to be found in the Musium d' Orsay in Paris.
