This document was written on 24 Nissan 5661 (1901) by the registrar of the religious court of Safed. It affirms that Reb Yisrael, son of Reb Ze’ev Segal, who sold his homes to Rabbi Moshe Yosef Bardat”z in Shvat 5660 (1900), is allowed to erect an additional floor on top of his houses’ rooftops, to add rooms outside the existing structure, and to lay beams upon them, and that the purchaser has no right to appeal. It is signed by two witnesses, Reb Avraham Erdstein and Reb Alter Drish [?]. Rabbi Zilberman, head of the Safed Religious Court, then added, in his handwriting, his authorization of the signatures of the witnesses. An official stamp by the religious court of Safed appears beneath this.
On the margins of the document are two additions in the handwriting of Yisrael Segal, dated Heshvan 5670 (1910), regarding the sale of the rooftops of the houses he had sold the previous year.
Rabbi Rafael Zilberman (5599-5678/1839-1918) was born in Uman and immigrated to the land of Israel with his parents as a teenager. In 5632 he was appointed Ashkenazi Rabbi in Safed, and served as head of the religious court until his passing.
Fair condition. Folding tears that do not affect the text.
