Document dated 14 Nissan 5688 (1928), the eve of Passover, in which Rabbi Avraham Yaakov HaCohen Orlansky wrote out at length the text of the contract for the sale of the Chametz (leaven) of the Zichron Yaacov colony. The Chametz was sold to a Gentile named Issa, and Rav Orlansky specifies that the sale includes "my leaven as well as the leaven of all homeowner residents of our community and surroundings..." The sale is for ten days for the price of 50 mil.
Aaron Oibergnik signed his name several times on the page as a guarantor for the sale. Rav Orlansky signed at the end of the document. Undersigned witnesses: Jacob Rashkas and Jacob Teperberg.
Rabbi Orlansky (1879-1929) was the first Rabbi of Zichron Yaacov, starting in 1919. He published numerous articles on religious and bibliographic subjects. He was murdered during the massacre in Hebron of 1929.
The document is on Rabbi Orlansky's official letterhead.
