Bill of sale, signed by Rabbi Moshe Zarhen, rav"d Marrakech [Morocco], 1936
Bill of sale in a Sephardic hand, dated 12/6/1936. The bill is signed by the rav"d of Marrakech, Rabbi Moshe Zarhen, along with his personal stamp.
Rabbi Moshe Zarhen served as rabbi of Marrakech for about 40 years. He was a third-generation rabbi in Morocco. He was noted for his outstanding modesty and simple manners. It is related that he never attended public events. The only person who he drew close was the beadle of the beit din, "Sheikh Yosef", called this because of his close relationship with the rabbi - though the rabbi didn't speak much with him either - only things regarding the beti din. He was in touch with many rabbinic leaders of the time. Though he had much property, he never exhibited his wealth. He was the ultimate authority on the mesora - traditions - of Morocco. In 1994, his bones were reinterred in Israel, in a cemetery in Haifa.
Size: 30x21 cm. Fold marks.
Fine condition.
