RENOIR JEAN: (1894-1979) French film Director. Academy Award winner. Unusual signed and inscribed 11 x 7.5 photograph by Renoir. Also signed by Roland Toutain, French Actor. The image showing the French film Director standing, in a half length pose, shaking Toutain´s hand during the filming of The Rules of the Game (1939). Signed `Pour Pierre, Jean Renoir´ in bold black ink, both to clear areas of the image. VG £300-400 Roland Toutain (1905-1977) French Actor, Songwriter and Aviator. Known for his role as aviator André Jurieux in Renoir´s film The rules of the Game (1939). The Rules of the Game (1939) was the most expensive French film up to that time. Although it became a critical and financial disaster and wartime French government banned it, it is now considered by many critics and directors as one of the greatest films in the history of cinema.
