[Yuri Viktorovich Romanenko (born August 1, 1944, village Koltubanovsky, Buzuluksky district, Orenburg region) - pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR, twice Hero of the Soviet Union.

Second space flight

It took place from 18 to 26 September 1980. On this mission, Yuri Viktorovich was the commander of the Soyuz-38 spacecraft and the Soviet-Cuban expedition to visit the Salyut-6 space station, along with the Cuban research cosmonaut Arnaldo Tamayo Mendes. This flight lasted 7 days, 20 hours, 43 minutes, 24 seconds.

After the successful completion of the flight on September 26, 1980, he became a double Hero of the Soviet Union, was awarded the second Gold Star medal and was awarded the second Order of Lenin, and on September 30, he was awarded the class "Pilot-Cosmonaut of the 2nd class". Also this year, he was awarded the honorary title "Hero of the Republic of Cuba".



Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez (Spanish: Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez, b. January 29, 1942, Guantanamo Bay) — the first Cuban astronaut, the first Latin American and the first person of African descent in space.

He graduated from the Cuban Air Force Academy and became a pilot in the Cuban Air Force. Selected as a member of the Soviet Intercosmos program on March 1, 1978. The reserve astronaut was Jose Armando Lopez Falcon.

It was launched together with Yuri Romanenko on the Soyuz-38 spacecraft on September 18, 1980 at 19: 11 UTC. After docking with the Salyut-6 station, Tamayo and Romanenko conducted experiments to find out the causes of the adaptation syndrome in space.
