Matters of the Sdeh Lavan Community Handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Naftali of Skvira

Psak Halacha handwritten by Rabbi Naftali Zvi ben Moshe of Skvira, regarding the rabbinate of Sdeh Lavan and the regular payments to the Daughter of Rabbi Shlomo, the Dayan of the town. 1889.

The Psak Halacha describes the claim of Mrs. Mindel, the daughter of Rabbi Shlomo. Mrs. Mindel claims that she was promised that her father's salary will be transferred to her by his successor, the Gaon Rabbi Mendel. The Gaon Rav Rabbi Mendel, on the other hand, claims that the payment is the responsibility of the residents of the town. Moreover, her father's position is held mainly by the Gaon Rabbi Simcha, the Moreh Tzeddek of the town.

The Gaon Rav Rabbi Naftali ruled to give her 25 rubles, only due to 'ועשית הישר והטוב'  and she and her descendants will have no further claims.

The Psak was written and signed in Adar A 1889, in Sdeh Lavan, by the Gaon Rav Rabbi Naftali Zvi ben Moshe of Skvira.

In Shem Hagedolim III we found the name of the Gaon Rabbi Naftali Zvi ben Moshe, who was indeed the Rav of Skvira.

Possibly he is the Rav who wrote this letter.

Rabbi Naftali Zvi, the Tzaddik Gaon who was Av Beis Din of Zornishtsh and later of Skvira. Was the son of the Tzaddik Gaon Moshe Av Beis Din of Lievertov of the Vohlin district who was famed for his sermons and was a descendant of the Rema and the Shach. The Gaon Rabbi Naftali Zvi was the father of the Gaon Moshe Av Beis Din of Skvira, the father of the Gaon Rav Rabbi Ephraim Fischel Metz Av Beis Din of Uman.

Sdeh Lavan - an important Chassidic town. Was called thus so as not to call it by the name Bila Tserkva (White Church).
