Sefer Ramban Al HaTorah, Venice 1545. Copy of R. Chaim Rappaport of Pinsk and Tzefas.

An early edition of Ramban’s fundamental commentary on the Torah, Venice 1545. With a masterful poem composed by the famed Eliyahu Bachur HaLevi.

Various ownership inscriptions seen on title page, as well as the personal stamp of R. Chaim b. R. Peretz HaKohen Rappaport of Vilna. From 1807, he served as the Rav of Pinsk, and in 1826 he emigrated to Eretz Israel. He is commonly known as one of the leaders of the Prushim community, and was well acquainted with the disciples of the Vilna Gaon. Additionally, he served at the helm of the Rabbinical Beth Din of Tzfas, during which he oversaw the merging of the Chassidic and Misnaged communities in Tzfas.

Interestingly, his approbations can be found on various works of the era, both of Chassidim and Misnagdim. See, for example, his approbation to Chayei Adam (Vilna 1810), as well as the Slavita edition of Menoras HaMaor (Slavita 1824), where the Apter Rav showers praise on him.

In overall good condition, with light stains. Title page and first leaf professionally restored, not affecting text.

157 pp.

Vinograd, Venice 252.
