Coins from the Lodz Ghetto. [8]. 1942-1943
8 coins from the Lodz ghetto, issued by the Judenrat for Jewish use.
Varying sizes. German. Three 10 pfennig coins from 1942. One of heavy, quality metal.
Three 5 mark coins from 1943, two of which are from heavy, better-quality metal. 1 particularly heavy. One 10 mark coin from 1943. One 20 mark coin from 1943. All the coins note that they belong to the council of "senior Jews of Litzmannstadt" and their reverse feature a Magen David and the caption, Ghetto. Experts are of the opinion that four of the coins in this collection are unknown, including the three made of heavy, quality metal. They were possibly from an experimental edition that was not distributed to ghetto residents. Will be sold as-is. Varying conditions: moderate-very fine condition.
