A World War II era enameled metal sign from the Litzmannstadt (Lodz) Jewish Ghetto in Poland. Inscription in German: Der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt Karten Abteilung, The Eldest Jewish Registration Department in Lodz. The registration department in Lodz functioned from May 1940 until the end of the war. It was responsible for keeping record of births, marriages, deaths, and population movements within the ghetto.
