BENTHAM JEREMY: (1748-1832) English philosopher, jurist and social reformer, regarded as the founder of modern utilitarianism. Autograph Manuscript, unsigned, one page, 4to, n.p., n.d. (annotated 28th December 1820 in another hand). Bentham has penned a series of notes over some twenty lines, with various corrections, on the subject of legislation and interpretations of the law, referring to arbitrary powers, the morals of every man, judges, lawyers and non-lawyers, abuse of words and the essence of law.
