Notes: The battles between the French and their colonial possessions were among the popular themes used by the French Dieppe ivory carvers during the late 18th century and 19th century.
Similar examples were sold at The Ernst Boehlen Chess Collection, Phillips, London, 9th November 1998, lots 71 and 101.
This lot is subject to CITES export/import restrictions and is duly certified.
