France: 2nd Zionist Congress struck medal in bronze (1898); by Jewish sculptor/medallist Samuel Friedrich Beer; 63mm, 110.75g. Obv.: allegorical figure pointing to a new dawn/horizon for the Jewish people. Rev.: Biblical quotation ex Book of Yekhezkel: "Behold and I take the sons of Israel from among the nations and I have brought them to their land". Beer was a personal friend of Herzl's; the movement's paper described the medal's design in detail & Friedenberg considers this to be "one of the most important Jewish medals ever struck".
