Italy: Sir Moses Montefiore centennary bronze struck medal, 1884; unmarked; 4.25cm, 27.1g. Obv.: relief of Montefiore left w/Heb. leg. "My servant Moses is Faithful in All Mine House" [Numbers xii. 7]. Rev.: 7-line It. leg. "A MOSE MONTEFIORE SINTESI PERFETTA DEL GIVDAISMO NEL SVO CENTENARIO VIII KESVAN 5645" (To Moses Montefiore, A Perfect Image of Judaism in his Centennary, 8th [day of month of] Cheshvan 5645 [27 Oct. 1884]). Maybe struck at Turin per Brettauer or at Corfu per Catalogue Anglo-Jew. Hist. Exhib. 1887; Forrer v3 p484 lists 'portrait medal' credited to Jewish firm Löwenstark & Sons, London in 1884. In VF; a few rim nicks, obv & residue. Rare.
