Marvellous edition including 10 engraved frontispieces and 75 portraits beside the text. 18 volumes bound in red Morocco leather, golden edges; super ex libris bearing a coat of arms of Empress MARIA FEODOROVNA. Daughter of the duke of Württemberg, wife of Paul I and mother of Alexandre I and Nicolas I, she owned a large collection of books in French, the language she spoke fluently. Ex libris of the Pavlovsk Palace’s Library on flyleaf.
