The original semi leather cover is in excellent condition, bands and gold-tooled back, sprinkled edges. Ex libris of the Countess Yuliya Samoylova Pahlen on flyleaf.
Provenance :
The Countess Yuliya Pavlovna Samoylova Pahlen was a rich heiress, known as a fashion trendsetter and famous for her legendary beauty. The Countess Pahlen was the Muse of a painter Karl Briullov who depicted her in « The Last Day of Pompeii » at least three times.
