[PRISONER EXCHANGE 1790]: Rare D.S., Niou, one page, folio, London, 27th December 1790, to Captain Radiguet. The partially printed document, bearing at the head a British blind embossed seal of the Prisoners of War department, is entitled `By the Commissioners for conducting His Majesty's Transport Service, and for the Care and Custody of Prisoners of War´ and states in part `These are to certify that M. Radiguet, Captain of French Land forces, taken Prisoner in Ireland, has been released from parole at Lichfield in England and permitted to return to France, upon his having entered into an engagement not to serve against Great Britain, or any Allies, until he shall be regularly exchanged for a British prisoner of war, of equal Rank..´ Boldly signed at the base by Joseph Niou in his capacity as Commissair of the French government in England, and by British war department representatives. Also bearing to the verso the Captain Radiguet´s personal description, including rank, age, stature, hair, eyes, wounds, etc.. With a French Republic red wax seal to the lower left corner of the document. Folded VG £100-150 Joseph Niou (1749-1823) French naval Engineer, Politician and Deputy during revolution. He voted at the Convention in favour of the King´s execution.
