Letter from R. Yechiel Mordechai Gordon, Rosh Yeshiva of Lomza, Petach Tivka, to R. Shabsai Yagel, Rosh Yeshiva of Slonim, Ramat Gan, in his handwriting and signature. 1956.
This letter was written the day before Passover, on the Rosh Yeshiva’s letterhead, to the Slonimer Rosh Yeshiva, upon receipt of the latter’s new book Netiv Yam (Jerusalem, 1956). The letter is in the original envelope in which it was sent from Petach Tikva to Ramat Gan.
R. Yechiel Mordechai Gordon was one of the great disseminators of Torah in his time. He was born in Lithuania in 1883, and was the son-in-law of R. Eliezer Shulevitz, founder of the yeshiva in Lomza, Poland. In 1906 he took a position as a rebbe in the yeshiva and became widely-known as one of the paramount roshei yeshiva of that period. A few years after the Holocaust, he immigrated to Eretz Israel and became Rosh Yeshiva of Lomza Yeshiva in Petach Tikva. He passed away in 1965.
The letter was damaged at the top and restored, without affecting text.
