Handwritten wall calendar from 1767 to 1923.
Huge wall calendar, “Luchot Olam.” Used generally for hanging in the synagogue. Written by a sofer craftsman in black and red on Bristol paper. On the calendar: full detail of all days of the Jewish and secular months, weekly parshas, new months, holidays, and the number of days each year. The keys to the calendar, Kiddush for the month, leap years, and periods of the sun and moon. The artistry of making calendars has always carried a special significance in Judaism. The Gemara requires it, with the verse: “it is your knowledge and wisdom in the eyes of the nations.” The organizer: Avraham Adler Aicher ben Nechemiah, Israel.
