"Chever Maamarim." Vilna, [1939] - First edition - rare!
Chever Maamarim. Mussar discourses [shmuessen] delivered by Rabbeinu Yerucham HaLevi [Levovitz] in the Mir Yeshiva. Vilna, [1939]. First edition.
VII [1], 450, [2] pages. 23.5 cm. Primarily a stencil. 146 discourses, including the last one he said before his death. The title page, introduction, and first discourse are printed, the rest are stencils - perhaps because of the war.
The title page notes that this volume was printed in Vilna at the end of 1939, just a few months before the outbreak of the war. During this period, after the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, Mir was transferred to Soviet control and the yeshiva moved to Vilna, which was under Lithuanian rule.
Rabbi Yerucham HaLevi Levovitz (1875-1936) was a prominent mussar personality of his generation. He was the spiritual leader (mashgiach) of various Lithuanian yeshivot. He was the mashgiach in the Mir Yeshiva for a lengthy period of time and navigated it through a number of stormy periods. He taught many disciples who later become leaders of the generation.
Simple, slightly loose binding. Aging stains. A number of loose and reinforced pages. Fine condition.
