Two Non-traditional Haggadot - Kibbutz Na'an, 1942 and 1946

* Non-traditional haggada from Kibbutz Na'an, [1942]. Stencil print with illustrations. Includes original spring songs along with an original version of "Mah Nishtana" that refers to the persecution of the Jews: "Why is the situation of the Jews different than that of all other nations? Each nation rests in its home and homeland, while the Jews are scattered around the world, hated and persecuted. Even in the Land of Israel, their homeland, they are not permitted to enter unhindered?.... In addition to original texts related to the vision of Kibbutz Na'an: "When will the day come that Na'an will be large, nice and spacious with much land around it and many brethren from the Diaspora will come to build it together with its members?... Along with an interesting, original text titled "Melody", related to the pogroms of "Tach V'Tat" that expresses feelings of bravery and heroics in contrast to those victims who are depicted by those who wrote the haggada as defeatists: "What are you, my blood courses through me, you are blood of an ancient generation ... who are you the blood that boils within me? The blood of the victims of Tach V'Tat? I will not stretch my neck - with a duel of death and not religious persecution! I have a sword and my fists are still hot ...  I will return blood for blood ..." It additionally includes a passage relating to the gates of the country that were closed to the illegal immigrant ships: "On the face of the sea, abandoned ... they will not allow the gates of the country to be closed ... the Jewish refugee who immigrates illegally goes out at the head of battle, and we all most got out to his army ... brothers will hold hand in hand ... war and liberation, and we call to our brothers who battle the bitter despair and death within the constraints of despondency ..." and more. * Non-Traditional Haggada - Kibbutz Na'an [1946]. Typewritten with hand-colored illustrations. Includes relevant texts alluding to the loss left by the Holocaust and the fact that the survivors were ignored by the world population: "Call to the spring and the slaughter together ... from the depths of loss the song of destruction wells up ... from the blood of the child and elder ... why are the gates of our land not opened wide so that we can be joined by our brothers and sisters, survivors of the sword and refugees from destruction? Why is the world quiet and ignoring the suffering, even today, when the war has ended? Why is Yisrael always the first to be the victim and the last to be saved? Why? ... you are the remnants of ....and refugees of the sword!..." Includes an original Yizkor text for the Holocaust refugees scattered around the world. "We will remember the remnants of Yisrael that survived the Nazi hell, the survivors of the sword, hunger, torture and fear, who remain still today childless and heartbroken, without home and homeland, in the countries of the Diaspora ... we will remember our brethren ... those who sanctified themselves in the ghettos and forests and cellars..." Kibbutz Na'an was the first kibbutz established by the Tenuat HaNoar HaOved and the first to be established by youth who were born in Palestine. The kibbutz was founded on Sukkot, 1930, near the city of Rechovot. Its name was taken from the nearby Arab village, Na'ana.
