Classic Talmudic novella authored by R. Shimon Shkop of Grodno. Primarily dealing with complex Talmudic concepts, this sefer was enthusiastically received and remains a fundamental work in the Lithuanian school of Yeshivos.
R. Shimon Shkop (1860-1940) studied in the great Yeshivos of Mir and Volozhin. In 1884, he was appointed as a Maggid Shiur in Telz, where he remained until 1903 when he succeeded his father as Rav of Moltash. In 1920, he became Rosh Yeshiva in Grodno where his shiurim attracted hundreds and under his leadership, Yeshivas Grodno became world famous as a bastion of Torah.
R. Tzvi Yehuda Alshwang (1873-1955) was born in Kovno, to a family of distinguished lineage. He studied in the great Yeshivos of Telz, Volozhin and Kelm and received rabbinical ordination from Rav Eliezer Gordon and Rav Yosef Rosen. He married the daughter of R. Moshe Mordechai Yudelevitz who was also the father in law of Rabbi Shimon Shkop. He served as a Rav in Chicago and later on the faculty of the Slabodka yeshiva in Bnei Brak. In his introduction R. Shimon thanks his distinguished brother in law R. Alshwang for the encouragement to publish his sefer.
