Novellae by the "Divrei Chaim" – an Early, Important Copying, Most Likely of the Original Manuscript, with Textual Variations
A leaf with novellae by Rabbi Chaim of Sanz which was printed in his book "Divrei Chaim Respona", Choshen Misphat Siman 13. The leaf is written on both its sides. A thorough examination of the text has revealed that this is an important copying, most likely of the original manuscript of the 'Divrei Chaim', such that the printed version is faulty in several places as compared to the version before us. An important discovery! (Enclosed is a photocopy of the printed version on which the textual variations are marked).
The manuscript begins with the title (which does not appear in the printed version): "In the Baba Metzi'ah tractate, Sugiya De'Ha'Malveh al Ha'Mashkon, leaf 84a".
Among the interesting variations: all the comments of "said the proofreader" that appear in the printed version do not appear in the original copying before us. The citations from the Rosh and the Talmud are more precise in the copying than in the printed version.
The beginning of the Novellae was written again on the upper part of the page (with several changes!) in different script.
24.5 cm.
Condition: Good. Gluing with old scotch tape.
