In 1940, he escaped Poland and immigrated to the Land of Israel, being one of the leaders who reestablished the Haredi community in Israel after the Holocaust. He served as the deputy chairman of Moetzet Gedolei Ha'Torah and after the death of Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer in 1954, replaced him as chairman, a position which he held until his death in 1966. He also served as the chairman of the independent education of the land of Israel. He published many books, the best-known of them being "Oznayim La'Torah" (five sections) on the Torah.
