Pe’atHaShulchan, Tzfat, Bak printing. 1836. First edition.
By Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov, student of the Gra. Halachot of the Land of Israel, collected from literature of the Tanna’im and Rishonim. Established according to the editions of Seder Zra’im by the Gra and his method of halacha. At the beginning of the book is a historical introduction by Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov including lines on the character of his Rav, the Gra, and the tragic story of the Aliyah of his students after his death. It is a historical testimony to the figure of the Gra and to the Aliyah of his students. The book is accompanied by endorsements by rabbis of Jerusalem, Tzfat, Tiberias, Damascus, and Baghdad. Including Rabbi Moshe Sofer of Pressburg, Rabbi Avraham AvleiPosvoler (Av Beit Din of Vilna), and more. The book is one of the first seven books printed by Rabbi YisraelBak in the Land of Israel. Printing of the book was delayed at the printing press from 1833 until 1836 because of looting rebels in Tzfat in 1834. In the introduction to the book, Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov tells details about the events and the destruction of the printing house by the rebels. The cover has signatures of ownership of RavYisraelAriehZalmanovich (Rav of Kfar Yonah), and more. [Shoshana HaLevi, among the first Jerusalem books, 1976, page 19, note 28, and the first of the printer, 1989 page 54, Meir Benihu]. [5], 2-109, [1] page, 29.5cm. New binding, cover and a number of the first pages and last pages are defective, with tears in the margins though no missing text. Stains from time, generally good condition.
