Nissim Saroussi (born in Tunisia on 15 April 1948 ) is an Israeli- French-Jewish singer .
The Seroussi family immigrated to Israel from Tunisia in 1962 and settled in Rehovot . As a teenager, Seroussi began his musical career with rhythm groups ("The Tigers" and "The Goldfingerz"). In 1967 , Seroussi enlisted in the IDF in the Golani Brigade, and appeared on weekends to help support the family.
After several years of performing in clubs together with bands in various ensembles, he began his solo career in 1973, when he published the song "I Can not" which later became a big hit. Yaron Gershovsky 's adaptation was in the style of the San Remo and Sarusi Festival, which he saw as a good one. He produced an entire album adapted by Gershovsky, which is characterized by a French-Italian sound of the 1960s. Other hits on the album were "Illusions" and "Mother".
In 1974 , Seroussi participated in the film "The Day of Judgment " by director George Ovadia , and also wrote the soundtrack.
In January 1975 , Seroussi was interviewed on the TV program Tendu , directed by Yaron London , who posed questions to Sarusi in a way that was perceived by many as condescending and scornful. The interview became a symbol of discrimination against Sephardi Jews and contempt for Mizrahi music in Israel, and aroused great uproar. The interview recordings themselves did not survive. The incident led to two parodies : a skit performed by Dubi Gal on the " Clean Up " program, and a scene with London's participation in " Schlager " ( 1979 ).
In 1976 , Seroussi moved to France and began appearing before Jews in Paris .
Seroussi was a co-producer of "Singing Singers of Zohar" which was performed in 1997 to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of Zohar Argov , where he sings Argov's "Sea of Tears".
Seroussi currently lives in France and visits Israel every few months.
