Zvi Hermann Shapira (1840-1898) was an educated Lithuanian Jew who lived and worked in Russia and later in Germany, a mathematician, one of the first Hovevei Zion and the political Zionism movement.
He was the initiator of the Jewish National Fund (Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael) and the thinker of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
