The Artist:
Chava Samuel (1904-1989)
was a painter and ceramic sculptor.
Born 1904, Essen, Germany she immigrated to Israel in 1932, and founded "Hayozer" [The Creator], the first ceramics workshop in the Jewish community, in Jerusalem.
She was one of the pioneers of Israeli ceramics, and in 1934 she founded with Paula Aharonson the ceramic workshop, "Kad VeSefel", in Rishon Lezion .
She was a founder of the Ceramics Artists Organization.
A number of her works were installed in public buildings. These include Zodiac Relief at the Kesem Cinema in Tel Aviv, where the first sessions of the Israeli Knesset were held, and ceramic walls in a number of locations.
