MANNOCK EDWARD 'MICK': (1887-1918) British Flying Ace of World War I (61 victories), Victoria Cross ...
MANNOCK EDWARD 'MICK': (1887-1918) British Flying Ace of World War I (61 victories), Victoria Cross winner for his aerial combat over France May 1917 - July 1918. Large portion of a D.S., E Mannock, one page, small 4to (an area at the head of the page neatly excised), n.p. (France), 21st May 1918. The partially printed document is a report of one of Mannock's aerial combats over La Couroune when he destroyed an enemy aircraft, the narrative stating, in part, 'Dived at 140 m.p.h. from Mont des Cats....from a height of about 8,000 feet. Observed E.A. flying west and continued to cut off the two-seater from its line of retreat. Fired about 40 rounds from the left front position, when the E.A. dived vertically and crashed, striking a tree.....The E.A. was being ''Archied'' at the time of engagement. Members of the Patrol observed the crash'. Boldly signed by Mannock at the foot in his capacity as Captain of No. 74 Squadron, R.A.F. A good signed document relating directly to Mannock's 32nd Aerial Victory (from a total of 61 confirmed Victories). Autographs of Mannock are extremely rare in any form as a result of his death at the age of 31 in a flying accident. Neatly mounted, otherwise VG £600-900
