VICTOR-PERRIN CLAUDE: (1764-1841) Marshal of France. Minister of war. Duc de Belluno. L.S., `De Bellune«, with a three lines holograph post-scriptum, two pages, folio, Paris, 8th July 1822, to General Pamphile de la Croix, in French. The letter bears to the upper left corner three printed heading of the Minister of war. Victor reports on `..the rewards that the King has granted to the officers who proved their valour during Caron«s arrest«, further saying `His Majesty is satisfied with the honourable feelings shown by the 46th regimentÉ and has kindly authorized me to distribute some drinks among officers..« One of the four officers awarded is Adolphe Thiers« brother, and each of them is granted 1.500 francs, total amount which Marshal Victor reports. At the base of the document, Victor adds a post-scriptum in his hand saying `Please let me know the names of the officers who were present with Nicol when Caron was arrested.« Folded. VG £100-150 Augustin-Joseph Caron (1774-1822) French Colonel. Caron was one of the leaders of the 19th August 1820 complot, remembered as ''The French Bazar''. Caron would be released after trial, but only two years after Caron planned the evasion from jail of his accomplices and intended a pronunciamiento. The 2nd of July 1822 Caron is arrested after taking the lead of conspirator troops, sentenced to death and executed.
