CHARLES IV: (1748-1819) King of Spain 1788-1808. D.S., `Yo El Rey«, one page, folio, Royal Palace of Madrid, 31st January 1789, to Pablo Diaz de la Carrera, in Spanish. The King appoints Diaz de la Carrera Second Lieutenant of the urban militia of the Gibraltar Spanish area municipality. Countersigned at the base of the front page by Geronimo Cavalleros and to the second page by Marquis of Zayas, in Seville, 2nd March 1789, bearing beneath two additional countersignatures. The present letter is signed only a month after King Charles IV ascended to the Spanish throne. Folded, with two small holes and a tear to the upper edge of the blank integral leaf, not affecting the text or signature. G £80-100
