HENRY II OF FRANCE: (1519-1559) King of France 1547-59. Rare D.S., Henry, one page, oblong 4to, vellum, irregularly trimmed to the right border, Melun, 1549, to Gabriel Dargon, in French. The letter being a patent title given to Gabriel Dargon son of Baron Dargon, a nobleman from the French Royal Court House. Countersigned by the King«s secretary. Overall creasing and right border partially trimmed affecting part of the written text but not affecting the King«s signature. F to G £400-600 Henry II suffered an untimely death in a jousting tournament. Surgeons were unable to cure the infected wound inflicted by the captain of his Scottish Guard.
