Jubran Khalil Jubran was born in 1883 in the village of Bashari, on Mount Lebanon, while Lebanon was part of the Ottoman Empire. Most of his adult life and activity were spent in the United States, although he preserved his identity and Lebanese nationality.

Jubran was engaged in drawing, painting and sculpture, was a poet, narrator and writer, philosopher and scholar of religions, who had a great influence on the modern era. Most of his fame came from his books, the most prominent of which were "The Prophet", "The Madman" and "The Wanderer" written in English and "Broken Wings," written in Arabic. His first 8 books, published between 1905 and 1923, were written in Arabic. He then wrote and published only in English - 11 books that were published between 1908 and 1933. After his death, about 20 files were published from writings found in his estate, and a collection of letters that he exchanged with Marie Haskel (his patron) was published. His books were and remain at the top of the bestseller list in the world. "The Prophet", "The Madman" and "The Wanderer" are on the bestseller list of the 20th century, in English.
