Sefer HaNigunim- Chabad
Sefer HaNigunim - a book containing the melodies of Chabad melodies - edited by Rabbi Shmuel Zalmanov - at the request of the Admor of the Rayatz - in order to collect the various Chabad melodies, correct them from the errors and preserve them.
In the year 5704, the Rebbe established the Nahayach company "in order to collect the old Chabad melodies, to cleanse them of the mistakes of the elderly Tamiim students who studied in Lubavitch, and to write them in musical notes by an expert on speaking according to a critic's committee and arranging them in print." As head of the society, the Admor of the R 'Tzion appointed Rabbi Shmuel Zalmanov.
Rabbi Zalmanov labored for many years to collect the many Chabad melodies by Chasidim and musicians, and from different formulas he examined the original and precise version of each melody. Later, with the help of expert musicians, he wrote the melodies carefully, so he added a commentary to each melody, And the tradition of the melody, as well as a special introduction with a comprehensive survey of the essence and significance of music in the Jewish people in general and the importance of Hassidic and Chabad music in particular, as well as a collection of the Rebbe's writings on the essence and importance of Chabad melodies. For five years he published in the year 5709 the first volume of the book of Nigunim containing 175 (ka "h) Nigu S.
At the beginning of the book appears a special introduction written by Rabbi Zalmanov, in which he comprehensively reviews the essence of music and its importance in general and the Jewish people in particular, and in particular the essence of Hasidic music and the special melodies of Chabad music and the various types of melodies.
Afterwards there is a wide collection of conversations and notes of the Admor of the 'TZ "about the nature of Chabad music.
Then there is the 'melody key', in which the melodies are arranged according to their order, with each melody appearing in its name with an annotation of the melody, its attribution and the order of its reception.
Then the niggunim themselves are divided into three classes; First class - directed tunes. That is, melodies created by the chassidic presidents, who were friends themselves or were used to singing them at different times. Second class - traditional Chabad melodies Includes melodies from the students of the Baal Shem Tov and the Maggid, as well as melodies from great Chabad Chassidim. Third class - melodies for different times. Includes melodies unknown to their friends who are accustomed to singing at different times, such as the melodies of Shabbat and Yom Tov, melodies of congregations, prayer melodies, and the like.
