A PHILISTINE TERRACOTTA KERNOS "TRICK-BOWL"
Ca. 11th-10th century BCE. The bowl consists of a tubular rim to which is attached a hollow boar's bust with his two front legs, ready to absorb liquid from the bottom. Opposite, a spout serves to drink from the bowl. 13.0 cm in diameter, 5.5 cm high. For a similar trick-bowl see: Trude Dothan, The Philistines and Their Material Culture, 1982, p. 224, fig. 8, and Tallay Ornan, A Man and His Land. Highlights from the Moshe Dayan Collection, 1986, pp. 96-7. In good condition and extremely rare. Accompanied by a Certificate of authenticity issued by Arieh Klein Ltd. Jerusalem, dated 12 Aug. 1993.
