Meginei Eretz. Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim with Turei Zahav and Magen Avraham. Dyhernfurth, Shabtai Meshorrer [Bass] Press 1692. First edition. Complete edition.

First edition of Maginei Eretz Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim with the Ta"Z commentary and the Magen Avraham, since printed in hundreds of editions. First edition of the Ta"Z's commentary, and first edition of the Magen Avraham, the two earliest and most fundamental commentaries on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim.

The printer Rabbi Shabtai Meshorrer Bass authored Siftei Chachamim on Rash"i and the bibliographic work Shiftei Yeshenim, writes about the progression of printing and the tremendous toil of deciphering manuscripts. He also writes about the author of Magen Avraham's manuscript, brought to him by his son Rabbeinu Chaim. The book includes a preface by Rabbeinu Chaim son of the Magen Avraham, an important preface in which he mentions this printer. He writes about previous unsuccessful efforts to print this book, and he also writes that he did not find a preface to the composition in his father's writings. This preface has been printed to this day in all editions of the Shulchan Aruch. With approbations of the rabbinical leaders of the generation.

The book before us merited great success and the same printer printed another edition after ten years, in 1702. From then until now the Shulchan Aruch has been printed in a similar format, with these two commentaries printed around the text of the Shulchan Aruch. More commentaries have been added over the generations, printed at the bottom of the pages.

This book is an important milestone in the study of the Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim, the name Meginei Eretz was given to this edition, and that is what it has been called over the generations.

Rare book, exceptionally sought-after. The National Library contains only one copy, which lacks the final page. To the best of our knowledge, the book has never appeared at public auction (not even an incomplete copy).

[2] 342 leaves, 30 cm.

Fine condition. Few worming holes, mainly in the white margins. Reinforcements in the last three leaves. Antique blemished parchment binding. Minimal aging stains.
