Two Important Books of Prayer, Printed in Bombay. Late 19th Century
* Shirei Renanot [hymns] for the holidays, Shabbat, weddings, circumcision, and yehi ratzon for the removal of the Sefer Torah [from the ark] on festivals, Rosh HaShanah, Kippur, and Rosh Chodesh ... by Shalom Yosef Penaker. Bombay [1879].
216 hymns and prayers per Cochin community customs. Printed by Shalom Yosef Penaker, custodian of the Sha'ar HaShamayim synagogue. Lithograph with vowelized letters. Includes an additional title page in Marathi. Although the title page records the book's year of printing as 1874, the year 1879 was determined according to Ya'ari, HaDefus HaIvri B'Artzot HaMizrach, section two, page 74, no. 101. There, Ya'ari writes that leaves of errata were printed for the book in 1880; and the book before us contains three leaves of errata.
