The French Postal Service – Extremely Rare, Special Item! – A Very Early Folded Letter from 1867 – Sent by Mail from Jerusalem via Jaffa and From There on a Boat to Bordeaux – 40 Cent Postage Stamp, Postmark "5089" of Jaffa, Postmark "Jaffa Siria" and All Postmarks of Transfer and Reception Postmarks
The letter was written in Jerusalem on June 13 1867 and was sent from Jerusalem via Jaffa, as was the custom of the French postal service. In Jaffa, the letter was affixed with stamps and postmarked a day later, on June 14 1867. From there, the letter was sent to Alexandria, Egypt, where it arrived and was postmarked on June 15 1867. On June 19, the letter was sent to Marseille, France and on June 26 1867 it was postmarked there and sent to Bordeaux, were it was received and postmarked [partial postmark]the next day.
The letter is handwritten in French. Has not been studied!
