Machzor for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Kabala. Yemen, 18th Century
Thick, handwritten machzor for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Kabalistic prayers and customs. Yemen, 18th century. 260 pages, paper. 16×10 cm. Clear Yemenite script with superlinear vocalization. Missing a bit at the beginning. A few variations from the printed machzor per the Yemenite customs. Many hymns from Spanish poets –rarely found in Yemenite prayer books – including R’ Yitzchak ibn Ghiyyat, R’ Shem Tov ben Ardotial and R’ Avraham Ibn Ezra. With kabalistic prayers and customs: the lengthy version of the “Baruch She’amar” found in kabalistic prayer books (leaf 35a-b); meaning of the shofar blasts on leaf 66, by Rabbi Moshe Cordevero; and order of the flogging ‘per the customs of Moroccan elders and the righteous of Eretz Yisrael” (119b). Owner signature at the beginning of the manuscript. Old, cloth binding. Minimal aging stains. Very fine condition.
