Collection of Manuscript Leaves. Practical Kabala. Yemen, 18th Century
Collection of solitary leaves from two different kabalistic manuscripts and a collection of hymns in Arabic. Yemen, 18th century. 22 leaves, paper. 17×11 cm. Various Yemenite scripts, written by professional scribes. Includes 5 leaves from an Arabic manuscript divided into chapters that features segulot; and 13 leaves from a Hebrew work with “hashbaot” in Aramaic, amulets, segulot and astrological forecasts. Arranged according to the days of the week. Some of the “hashbaot” are also in the “Shushan Sodot”, an early collection of manuscript works related to magic from the 15th century (Sassoon 290). Here is also a copy of “Charavo shel Moshe”. This work is richly embellished with precise sketches and angel texts. Owner signature on a blank leaf. Along with three leaves in a different hand, with poems in Arabic from Yemen. The leaves are within an album. Aging stains. Tears with loss. Moderate condition.
