Station "Winter"
1918-1919. Paper, watercolor. 26.7x38.3 cm.
On the other side of the painting is inscription "400 Сибирь".
The artist created this artwork in 1918-1919 during his trip over the Far East. He held a solo exhibition of watercolors in Vladivostok in June 1919. In late 1919, he emigrated to China and lived in Harbin.

PROVENANCE:
The artwork was acquired in 2006 from Victor Vasilievich Popov.
Victor Vasilievich Popov (1932 - 2008): Doctor of Medicine. Chairman of the Balto-Slavic Society from 1989 to 1996. Publisher of “Church and Peace” newspaper.
CONDITION REPORT: The work is in excellent condition.
At the request of the Emperor Nicholas II, the artist A. S. Hrenov has executed a series of watercolors with the scenes of royal hunting.
The collector of his works was the Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich.
Zima Station is located 230 km away from Irkutsk on the Trans-Siberian Railway.
Zima Station is known due to the following facts:
• Poet Evgeni Alexandrovich Evtushenko was born and lived a part of his life here.
He has written poems about Zima Station already in his childhood and later from 1953 to 1956.
• During the October Revolution:
In early January 1920, the Supreme Ruler” of Russia Admiral Kolchak has dissolved his convoy and proceeded to Irkutsk under the protection of white Czechs;
In January 1920, General Kappel ordered two columns of the White Army to join at the Zima Station and prepare for a decisive assault to Irkutsk in order to save General Kolchak and gold reserves.
