A compostition written by Rabbi Nissan Shidlov as a response to the book 'Netzach Yisrael' written by Isaac Hirsch Weiss referring to the trial of the well-known Jewish writer Leopold Comfort, who published in his journal [Jahrbuch für Israeliten"] an article by the historian Zvi Gertz about Jewish messianism and among others determined that the Messiah is not a specific figure and therefore Gertz criticized the yearning for him.
The article caused anger and claims of "Chilul Ha'Shem" by Orthodox Jews and of heresy by the Catholic church, since Gertz claimed that chapter 53 of Isaiah, a central prophecy which is interpreted by Christians as referring to Jesus, was an allegory for the redemption of the Jewish Nation and did not refer to a specific Messiah.
The article caused intense controversy and a hundred rabbis signed a petition against Gertz, titling him "heretic".
The special book before us was kept in the library of Rabbi Ben Zion Wesell Av Beit Din of Turda.
38 leaves. 18cm.
