Interesting letter by the Maccabi Gymnastics Association in Jaffa - with the first stamp of Herzl - 1914 - Rare!
A special and fascinating letter (in duplication), by the "Maccabi" gymnastics federation in Eretz Israel, the fourth cylinder of the World Federation. Sent to members of "Maccabi" in the colonies of Judea. Sent from Jaffa, on the 23rd of Shvat, 1914.
At the top of the letter is the JNF's "Herzl" stamp (5 cents, issued in 1909. The first stamp in the world in which Herzl was depicted, a painting by Lilien, is also the first stamp of the JNF in which a human figure appears). Stamp stamp: The center of the "Maccabi" gymnastics federation in Eretz Israel.
The letter is handwritten, printed and duplicated. At the end are the signatures of Histadrut Chairman Zvi Orlev (Nishri) and Secretary of State Yisrael Pnini [?].
The letter refers to the decisions of the Assembly and its conclusions, including: "We hereby draw your attention to the decision of the Executive Council ... to send each year a known number of members of the selected gymnasts abroad to study in the gymnastics field so that they can return to Eretz Israel The gymnastics in our Histadrut branches. "
It also speaks volumes about the importance of disseminating the knowledge of the Hebrew language and its literature in the broad avenues of the people, as well as the importance of Hebrew work: "Every member who speaks foreign languages while he knows how to speak our language, or any of our friends, "He determines our national psyche."
Zvi Arye Orlov - (Nishri) was then chairman and chief executive of the first association in Jaffa, which initially consisted of only 20 members, and used the gymnasium of the Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium in Jaffa.
This letter was attached to the minutes of a meeting of the Executive Committee held in Jaffa, which participated in the branches of the branches: Jaffa, Petah Tikva, Rishon LeZion, Rehovot and Akron.
