The book is written by Mikhail Loris-Melikov, who had the key part in the rescue expedition on the icebreaker "Malygin". In addition to its main task - a description of the work and actions of "Malygina", the author considered it necessary to briefly talk about the expedition of the Nobile and the main points of the rescuers. In 1934, Mikhail Loris-Melikov was arrested and put in Dmitrovka. Part of the archives managed to transfer to the storage of their loved ones. Along with the book preserved original telegrams from the icebreaker "Malygin" from which we learn that the first group of Nobile discovered the pilot grandmother, not Boris Chukhnovsky. M. A. Loris - Melikov was born in Paris in 1905. After the revolution, he stayed in Soviet Russia and got to the icebreaker " Malygin ", where he was the most suitable for writing a book. Loris-Melikov-Loris-Melikishvili (arm. Լոռիս-մելիքով, cargo. ლორის მელიქის შვილი) — the nobility and the count's birth, of Armenian origin.

Loris-Melikov, Joseph G. — Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Sweden. He studied in Germany and spoke five languages. Member of Nansen's trip to Siberia (1913). Review of the Nansen:

In 1913 he accompanied the famous Norwegian Explorer Fridtjof Nansen on his trip to Russia. The expedition had been identifying and recording linguistic characteristics of the dialects of the local population: Urickogo, Samoyed and Yenisei-Ostyak. As an official supporting relations between Norway and Russia, he was directly interested in carrying out this expedition, the purpose of which was the opening of a new trade route from Northern Norway to Siberia. Fridtjof Nansen himself spoke about Joseph Grigorievich in the following way: "thanks to this combination of all circumstances, we could enjoy his company on a journey — always friendly and kind, always well-dressed and perfectly educated diplomat, always sociable and interesting interlocutor, always ready to make a joke, and appreciate someone else's sharpness and always steadfastly confident in the correctness of the Russian state system and its superiority."In 1914-April 1916-1st Secretary of the Russian Embassy in the United States. Since 6 may 1916, he has been chargé d'affaires and Consul General in Siam with the personal rank of extraordinary envoy and Minister Plenipotentiary. From April to November 1917-envoy to Siam. On November 26, 1917 he was dismissed by order of the people's Commissar Lev Davidovich Trotsky.  
He was a friend of the Russian poet Zinaida hippius and, being well acquainted with the world classical literature, taught her Moliere's poetry.
After the October revolution he emigrated to France. He died in August 1948 in Paris. He was buried in the cemetery of Saint-Genevieve de Bois.
