Liban labor camp (Polish Liban) is the spoken name of the former labor camp of the German service Baudinst, which was near Krakow on the territory of the quarries on the hills called Kshemyonky-Podgurskie. The camp was established by the Nazi occupation authorities on the territory of the Cracows Podgozhe enterprise "Factory of chemical products." In pre-war time, this enterprise was called by the people "Liban" by the name of its Jewish founder Bernard Liban. At present the enterprise is not functioning and is in ruins.

History

The labor camp was established on April 15, 1942 and lasted until July 22, 1944. About 400 prisoners worked in the labor camp at that time. About 4 thousand people passed through the camp during the whole period, most of them Jews. The prisoners worked under severe conditions in the quarries and during the burning of lime.

During the liquidation of the labor camp there were about 170 people in it, 140 of whom managed to escape, the rest were shot by the Germans on the spot. The executed were buried in the place of execution. In 1948 a small monument was erected in memory of the executed ones.
