Point Pleasant

Lionel Barrymore was an American actor and artist, best known for his roles in the films A Free Soul, for which he won an Academy Award for best actor, and as the villain in the classic Frank Capra movie It’s A Wonderful Life. Barrymore’s artworks mainly consist of watercolors and etchings, often depicting fanciful scenes from plays, leisure activities like golf, and harbors with boats. Born on April 28, 1878 in Philadelphia, PA, he attended the Art Students League of New York as an adolescent before focusing on his acting career. Later in life, Barrymore maintained a printshop and studio attached to his Los Angeles home, and was the great-uncle to contemporary actress and celebrity Drew Barrymore. Today, his works are held in the collections of the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, among others. He died on November 15, 1954 in Los Angeles, CA at the age of 76
