Left and right-Joseph Bass
Joseph Bass was born in 1908 in Lvov and returned to Galicia (later in Poland ). In 1936 he immigrated to Eretz Israel . He studied architecture at the Technion in Haifa . After completing his studies in 1940 he worked as an architect and at the same time began to publish cartoons in Ha'aretz and became the newspaper's permanent cartoonist for 30 years. His caricatures published under the title "These Days" covered the entire period of World War II and the Holocaust , and later the period of struggle against the British and the War of Independence . Beginning in the second half of the 1930s , he published a satirical newspaper called Pins, edited by Ya'akov Resnick .
During and after the War of Independence, Yosef Bass served as the first information officer of the Israel Police, and then returned to his section in Haaretz and continued there until the late 1970s. At the same time established an advertising agency . Won prizes for posters he painted for the Information Center. He also designed state medals and painted sets for theater performances. The theater reviews of Dr. Haim Gamzu were accompanied by illustrations by the actors of the artist Joseph Bas Bass painted illustrations for many books, including children's books, and the caricatures published by Yosef Bass in Haaretz were published in several books.
Joseph Bass had a thin, delicate line and was good at painting portraits. He particularly liked to paint the image of David Ben-Gurion , with a critical but sympathetic eye. Bess's caricatures of David Ben-Gurion were collected in his book "The Old Man and the People," which appeared in 1961 .
