Letter from Rabbi Shimon Sofer of Erlau
Letter of response regarding Torah from Rabbi Akiva Eiger.
Rabbi Shimon Sofer (1850 - 1944), author of Hisorerus Teshuva, was the son of the Ksav Sofer and served as Rabbi of Erlau for upwards of 60 years. He was known throughout Hungary for his piety and greatness and
the Admor of Belze referred to him as “Shimon Hatzadik.” He was deported to Auschwitz at the age of ninety-five where he perished along with his congregation.
